How do I get started?
You can register and start adding items right now for free. If you choose a paid subscription, you only need to pay when you’re ready to make your account public.
1. Register your location
Add a description of your location, a photo and tell us where it is.
2. Add some items
Pick some of the things that can be seen at your location and add the details including a description, a picture, and which categories it is in.
3. You’re ready to go!
Once we’ve reviewed all the information you’ve entered you’re ready to go and the information will appear on the kimyo website.
How much does it cost?
There is an annual fee per location based on your income, charitable status and the number of Items you would like to list.

Kimyo is for museums, heritage sites, art galleries, zoos, and other locations of educational and cultural interest.
The annual cost of listing your venue on kimyo depends on your institution’s income, charitable status and the number of items you would like to list. For charitable institutions with an income below a certain threshold, an Essential subscription is free. Please see the table above for more details.
You can update your own listing whenever you want by logging in and making the changes.
You can invite any number of people to update your listing. This makes it easier for you to delegate responsibility to colleagues.
Yes! Simply add these as an Item and include the dates of when it is available.
Younger visitors are encouraged:
- Through the use of kimyo in schools, where our lesson plans get them engaged with the topics they are currently learning about.
- Through parents who are looking for somewhere to take their children that is educational and relevant to what their children are learning.
- Through self exploration of the topics that interest them and through the incentive of unlocking virtual badges for collecting Items they have been to see.
Collectable Items are Items that you have listed and which you have assigned a question and answer to. By answering the question, users of kimyo can collect that Item. Questions should be such that they require the responder to have visited to your venue. For example, “what is to the left of the item in the display case?”
Virtual Badges are unlocked by collecting certain combinations of Items. This might be a certain number of Items from a given topic or from a particular town.
