Cornish Boiler

What is it?

Hey kiddo! Have you ever heard of the Cornish Boiler? It's a really cool invention made by Thomas Piggott. It works by burning coal to boil water, which creates steam to power a beam engine. But here's the interesting part – the Cornish Boiler has a special design. It has a central fire tube where the coal is burned, and this tube is surrounded by water in the outer shell of the boiler. So when the fire heats up the tube, it also heats up the water around it. But that's not all! The hot gases from the fire actually go in and out of the boiler three times before they finally go up the chimney. This means that the water gets heated up three separate times before it turns into steam to power the engine. It's amazing how one invention can do so much, don't you think?
