Bun Throwing is an Abingdon tradition which is said to go back to the coronation of George III. On special occasions, like a royal birthday, wedding or jubilee, the Mayor and Councillors of Abingdon throw thousands of currant buns from the roof of the County Hall Museum to the people waiting to catch them in the Market Place. The museum has a collection of historic buns. The oldest is from 1897, Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The buns on display were baked for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The number 60 piped on the top stands for 60 years on the throne.
